Jane's Story (For the performance compo at Assembly, organised by the Alternative Party) Kristoffer Lawson 29th July 2005 Jane Summer had arrived at the big building. Both her parents were there to escort her all the way to the main doors. Her dad was carrying the heavy monitor in his arms, huffing and puffing as he went. Her mother held tightly to her hand. Jane had wanted to visit a computer party ever since her dad had brought her a computer from work, and several MikroBITTI magazines. In one of them was a short article about the demoscene and she was very excited about it. She wished to learn about programming. Inside the big hall she met some so-called sceners. They were of the Big Crew! True oldskool 'gurus'. She tugged at a big guy's sleeve and asked him what computer he uses. He said it was the Amiga 500 -- a true demoscene computer. She smiled. She knew that. The big scener asked if she wanted to learn how to make demos, and she said, "Yes, please!". So he told her about registers and interrupts and the copper and many other exciting things. It was very confusing at first but she soon learnt and was asked to join the elite's demogroup, which was called The Big Crew. It was too early for her to take part in their megademo this year but, the scener told her, that with a little practise and work she would soon be making glenz vectors and scrolltexts. She smiled wide. At the end of the party, the prizes were announced and, much to the surprise of many, The Big Crew one. Three large sceners climbed up on-stage and said, "Thank you everyone, and greets to Jane". Jane could not believe it. She was a part of it all! A true scener. She felt so happy. Exactly ten years later, she puked on to the side of a Boozembly rock. She was still happy.
