Computer: SGI Personal Iris Processors: MIPS Memory: ??? Harddrive: ??? OS: IRIX Last week I visited the Armoured Brigade at Parolannummi, Finland. As far as the legend goes there should have been few huge SGIs running some state-of-the-art tank simulators. Alas, as it turned out the simulators were run by an array of 486 PCs - one four each screen which there were four in each tank. Actually, I forgot to ask which OS that farm was built on. I did also find the SGI boxes of which there were eight in total. The tower case read 'Personal Iris' and that's it. They were not connected to each other so this hardly qualifies for a spotted mainframe. There were some other interesting thingies. For an advanced Megazone experience there were infrared && laser && something similar bazookas and devices for tanks cannons. I've elsewhere seen standard army rifles with infrared implants so I guess you could build a zone game with infantry, tanks etc. Pretty neat. Finally I got to try an air defence machine gun which was hooked in to a PC. You could try to drop helicopters, bombers and fighters. The gfx wasn't much better than standard PC games except for the controller ie. the gun.
